Kesar Life – our journey into the world of the golden spice
Saffron – known around the world as Crocus sativus, safran, safranum, asfar, zafaran, zafferano – has carried countless names through the centuries, but for us the Indian word “kesar” felt the most fitting. In it we found exotic charm, euphony, and magic, which we wanted to weave into our story.
Through the ages, the threads of saffron have intertwined with the threads of human history. In ancient Mesopotamia, it was used to paint prehistoric scenes. The Sumerians added it to potions and magical elixirs. The Persians wove it into fabrics and scattered it on their beds, believing it brought comfort against melancholy. Alexander the Great healed his wounds in warm saffron baths, and in the 14th century, the theft of saffron became the cause of a war that lasted an entire 14 weeks.
It was precisely this blend of myths and facts, of science and legend, that inspired us to follow our own path. Near the town of Petrich, we created our saffron farm. There, every autumn, starting at sunrise, we harvest the flowers by hand — one by one, over the course of several weeks. We gently separate the red stigmas, dry them at a carefully controlled temperature and for a precise amount of time. After these processes, we store the saffron in special dark containers for several months. Then its aroma becomes rich — woody yet sweet and floral — ready to breathe life into our products.
For us at Kesar Life, saffron is not just a spice. It is a bridge between past and present, between legends and modern care, between nature and humanity. In every thread lives a story — and every drop of our formulas carries a part of that story to you.
